STROLL for LIVER
Too many Canadians are living a life of pain, extreme fatigue and chronic itchiness due to their advanced liver diseases. In addition, not enough Canadians know that liver disease stretches beyond the area of alcohol, drug abuse and sexually transmitted diseases, into the realm of autoimmune, non-alcoholic, genetic conditions and unknown causes. At our annual STROLL for LIVER charity walks, we help take giant steps towards defeating this growing health crisis by getting out and fundraising for improvements in research, education, patient support and advocacy in our local communities.
For well over a decade, thousands of STROLL for LIVER participants have taken to the streets to combat liver disease by gathering teams filled with family, friends, neighbours, co-workers and even medical professionals ready to fundraise and support lifesaving liver research. It is this research that may soon provide us with new ways to prevent, diagnose, treat and cure liver diseases of all kinds.
From coast to coast, the voices of the 1 in 4 Canadians who may be affected by liver disease are boosted in communities across Canada as each STROLL provides a gathering place where those families and friends can share their liver disease experiences. Strollers also discover valuable information from one another and establish long-lasting support relationships that can improve their quality of life.
Participants are also encouraged to champion their personal successes, commemorate loved ones who they’ve lost, or to provide a better tomorrow for those affected when they walk or run at the event.
What better way to fight for the end of liver disease by celebrating liver health with fun-tastic entertainment and a day filled with fitness? Strollers showcase what it’s like to lead a healthy lifestyle when they walk/run and help shrink their chances of living with liver diseases caused by a lack of exercise like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Of course, everyone from children to adults are also eager to enjoy the festivities we have in store like bouncy castles, face painting, health fairs, exercise demonstrations, fundraising prizes and much more.
Over the last five years, STROLL for LIVER’s across the country have raised close to $1,000,000 to fund critical research and education programs for both the general public and medical professionals.
Still, those living with liver disease feel the urgency that treatments and cures for their conditions must be found soon. Help them by registering at a STROLL for LIVER near you.
If you can’t make a STROLL event, there are many other ways to show your support for liver health. Millions of Canadians who may be affected by liver disease can truly benefit from your donations that will help fund liver research and education. Just as well, volunteering in our liver health community directly impacts the successes of our events and patient support services.
However you choose to support the CLF, we thank you for inching liver disease closer to the finish line and allowing us to continue bringing liver research to life for all Canadians.
