This month, we’ve invited four Canadians to the blog to tell their liver disease story and to share what monthly donors mean to them.
Second up is Bonnie – take it away Bonnie!
My name is Bonnie, and I am the mother of an amazing seven-year-old girl named Alice. Alice loves nature walks, crafting, yoga, and spending summers at our cottage up north. She also has a liver disease called biliary atresia.
When Alice was born, she looked jaundiced, but hospital staff did not express concern. It wasn’t until we took her to our local emergency hospital that she was diagnosed with biliary atresia. At 68 days old, Alice underwent a surgery that usually has a success rate of only 30%. Thankfully, it was successful, and Alice has been able to live with her native liver since. However, she will need a liver transplant in her lifetime, and the uncertainty of when that will happen can be overwhelming.
The Canadian Liver Foundation (CLF) has been a beacon of hope and support for families like ours, and your monthly donation can make a difference for children like Alice. By contributing, you help advance research and education, leading to better treatments and outcomes for liver disease patients.
Your ongoing monthly donation can create a lasting impact:
By making a monthly donation to the CLF, you become a lifesaver for children like Alice. Your support helps ensure that no one faces liver disease alone, and that children like Alice have a chance at a healthy future.
Please commit to a monthly donation today and give hope to families like mine. Your generosity can save lives and help us navigate the uncertainties that liver disease brings.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Warm regards,
Bonnie
