The LIVERight Galas

The LIVERight Galas

You may know them as spectacular nights filled with gourmet meals, top-notch entertainment, and outstanding live and silent auction prizes—but do you know how the LIVERight Galas are helping to change the future of liver health for the 1 in 4 Canadians who may be affected by liver disease?

The LIVERight Galas are the Canadian Liver Foundation’s (CLF) premiere fundraising event dedicated to raising funds for lifesaving research and honouring children and youth affected by liver disease across the country.

Children are not often associated with liver disease when in fact; they can be born with life-threatening liver conditions that can result in cirrhosis, liver cancer, or liver failure. Children and youth are also not exempt from the same liver diseases that affect adults like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease or hepatitis (Aand C), to name a few.

In 2017, we honoured six unique children and youth who, alongside their families, shared their harrowing battles with different liver diseases from biliary atresia to liver cancer. At each LIVERight Gala, we also paid tribute to dedicated researchers, liver specialists, volunteers, donors and sponsors that help the CLF bring liver research to life.

“It’s amazing how quickly a life can change!” said Julie Chessell, mother of Brock, an 11-year-old liver transplant recipient honoured at the Toronto LIVERight Gala. “We will be forever grateful to Brock’s organ donor, his team of doctors and of course, to the CLF knowing that their focus on liver research is so strong and successful.”

The buzz created by the LIVERight Galas was palpable in five cities across the country last year. In 2018, we’ve added one more magnificent community to the mix. This year, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver and for the first time, Halifax, will all experience breathtaking nights to remember.

History was made at the 2017 LIVERight Gala in Vancouver when the HepBeware project; a free screening project that provides hepatitis B blood tests to those in Vancouver’s rapidly growing Asian/South Asian communities, was officially unveiled. This project was made possible by CLF donors, Vancouver-area philanthropists Mr. and Mrs. Sonny and Florence Leong and the Vancouver Bullion Currency Exchange.

Thanks to the generous support from our volunteers, attendees, special guests, sponsors and donors, last year’s LIVERight Gala set a fundraising milestone for the CLF, raising 1.2 million dollars to provide much-needed liver research for those suffering. This year, you can help us surpass that and make a more significant impact on liver health for all Canadians by attending our LIVERight Galas. Find your city and purchase your tickets today!
